waiting is hard

I'm wound up so tight right now. There's this dog that I want, she's gone through hell and back and is on the road to recovery. Despite what she's been through she still has the capacity to love humans. I'm waiting for a decision from the woman who found her and is currently fostering her.

There are other people who want her and I think have a better chance of getting her due to being in closer proximity to the foster mom. I'm a wreck, I want her so much. I probably shouldn't have done this, but I went out and bought a collar and leash today. It's pretty without being too girly. I think I just set myself up for some serious disappointment. Waiting is torture.

She's just over a year old (an approximate guess by the vet), she appears to be a Rottweiler/Lab/Border Collie cross. She's got a sweet face with a little underbite. Her face isn't very Rottweiler-like, she's got a longer snout and a narrower head, but she's got the brown colouring on her legs. She's longer haired than a Rottweiler as well. She's well trained and is super friendly, she'd be the perfect dog for us as first time dog owners.

My stomach is so tight, I can't stand this waiting.

crazy ex (not mine)

So early in 2007 my brother broke up with the craziest bitch that ever existed, much to the relief of the entire family. Her modus operandi was web stalking and nasty communique via email. My brother has since moved on with another girl who is quite nice and thus far seems normal. The ex has taken the opportunity to send the new girl a nasty email or two, not wholly unexpected. She found new girl's email address using her expert cyber stalking skills, go figure.

We happened to be talking about ex girl over the xmas holiday and I decided to see if she was still checking up on us using her super stalking powers. I have a myspace page that I never go to anymore (it's facebook's fault) and made a blog entry about how happy my brother is with the new girl and how nice she is compared to the ex and how peaceful our existence is now that we don't have to worry about nasty emails in our inbox.

I had put the blog entry out of my mind until a few days ago when I received an anonymous voodoo curse. Guess where it was delivered? My inbox of course. I asked all my friends if they had sent me this wonderful voodoo doll in my likeness, stuck with pins. Everyone swears it wasn't them. Hubby then says what about bro's ex? I immediately thought "why would she do that after all this time? It's almost been a year since they broke up". Then I remembered the blog entry. I ran to my computer and logged into myspace, and sure enough there was a new comment in my blog and it was her!!! Creepy, she IS still checking up on me (us). The comment wasn't nasty, but was dripping with sarcasm, so I clicked on her name and it took me to her myspace page(which BTW has always been set to exclusive, so she turned that off just for me so I could read her blog, what a sweetheart), where she happened to have a blog entry with a similar title to mine, only it was written on the same day that she wrote the comment on my blog. Her entry was about what you would expect from her, full of bullshit and lies about my brother. I got a good chuckle. So instead of leaving a comment on her blog page, I left a reply to her comment on my blog page, which means that she has to go snooping again to find my comment. I won't be responding to anything else she leaves me, she proved my point. I'm satisfied that she's a bonafide nutter. But there wasn't really any doubt.

vacation!

Our flight is booked and we're headed to BC next month. Yay. Flying always makes me very nervous, I hate it. I just find it hard to believe that something that big and monstrous can float on air. It freaks me out. I think I might take something before this flight. I don't know. We were on a bad flight to Ireland a couple years ago, the turbulence was so bad that the flight attendants looked nervous and we had to keep flying higher to find better air. That was on the way there and all I could think about during our trip was that we had to get back on a plane to go home. I'm a stress case when it comes to flying.

On a less stressful note, I found an excellent place for our kitties to stay while we're away. It's a cats only boarding facility. The chick that runs it is a true cat lover and it shows. The place was immaculate, no funky smells, nice layout, spacious kennels. She seemed to know her stuff when it came to cat behaviour and health, so I'm confident that they'll be in good hands while we're gone.

Planes suck.

good things i'm doing

Here's a list of good things I'm doing (in no particular order)

1. bringing my own reusable bags to the grocery store.
2. feeding my cats good food.
3. sponsoring a little girl in Uganda
4. keeping my apartment clean
5. calling my parents regularly
6. snuggling with my cats as much as possible
7. running the dishwasher only when it's full
8. keeping the lights turned off during the day
9. looking for another job
10. trying to eat better
11. going on vacation
12. saving my money
13. making non toxic cleaning products
14. buying non toxic products when I can't make them myself
15. trying not to freak out about turning 30
16. driving my car less
17. getting lots of sleep

I'm going to bed.

what's with tim horton's?

I'm not using this bloggy thing-a-ma-jigger as much as I had hoped that I would. I'm a shitty blogger.
Ah well, I'm unemployed and lazy. For the first time in years I'm consistently sleeping in past 9 am. I actually feel a tad guilty when I wake up, I feel like I should be utilizing my time better or something. But after I get up and make breakfast, check email, clean up the apartment and it's only 11 am, I ask myself why I got up so early when there's absolutely nothing to do. I don't live in a place that's condusive to walking. It's a city designed for the almighty automobile. So I can't just go for a nice walk to a quaint coffeeshop and read a book for a few hours. Oh sure, I could walk over to the nearby Tim Horton's, but there's something about the ambience that just doesn't say relax, sip a hot bevvy, read your book. Instead there's a sign posted that tells you that you're only allowed to be there for 20 minutes, and the drive through is making all sorts of noise, and there's a gaggle of old ladies talking about their doctor's appointements and their arthritis and there are people coming in and out letting the cold wind blow in through the open door and the seats are made of hard plastic and metal. It's just awful. Where I live pretty much sucks. A sea of franchises and big box malls. Blech.

oh xmas tree, oh xmas tree

N brought an xmas tree home yesterday. We've never had a tree before as we've never really had the space, we still don't. I guess a co worker's grandma owns an xmas tree farm and brought a bunch in to work, so N grabbed one. We borrowed a tree stand and today I went out to buy all the trimmings.

I must admit, I'm glad we have it. I haven't really been feeling in the xmas spirit this year for some reason. It seemed to come very fast this year. I'm done all my shopping, but it felt empty walking through malls and department stores. I think part of the problem was that we didn't have anything here at home to make it seem all xmassy. Now we've got a lit up tree. I feel somewhat better.

I must admit that I hate the process of xmas shopping. I generally start pretty early cause I hate shopping in crowded stores, walking behind some slow ass people and not being able to pass cause the damn place is packed to the tits with human flesh. I hate it.

The consumerism and eventual waste that is the aftermath of xmas makes me depressed. I bought recycled reusable cloth gift bags this year, so I don't have to use much wrapping paper.
I'm not saying I'm not part of the consumer bloodbath, but I'm conscious of it, and try to reduce my participation in it.

Next year I might try something different for xmas. Go completely green or give donations to great organizations in everyone's name.

handsome furs

They totally rocked out last night. I hadn't really listened to them before and went because N likes them. We have the same taste in music so I didn't have any doubts that I would enjoy them, and I liked not knowing what to expect. They were effing amazing!! They were both so into what they were doing, it was just as enjoyable to watch them do their thing as it was to listen to them. We might go to see them again tomorrow night in another city.

The only thing that detracted from my complete and utter enjoyment of the show were these 3 middle aged men, all taller than most of the crowd, with typical middle aged spread around the middle. They were wearing leather jackets and looked stereotypically like mafia. They stood out like sore thumbs right in the middle of the crowd. Sure, they could have been fans, but they all seemed quite disinterested, never clapped when a song finished and were talking to each other alot and texting on their phones. One of the dudes looked like he was trying hard to fight falling asleep (which is mind boggling, since the show was so fucking loud!). He eventually left his partners. Every time the one guy raised his beer to his mouth it was hard not to notice the giant pinky ring. Who wears a pinky ring? It just seemed too weird to me, then my imagination took over. I had images of these guys carrying out a hit during the loud parts of the show, or opening fire on the crowd. I made eye contact way too many times and I'm sure they thought something was wrong with me. Ah well, I just hope they're not at the show tomorrow night. :D

The Handsome Furs rocked me last night.
